Holiday Cheer

People believe holiday cheer is for Children. Holiday cheer is for everyone. Throughout the year there are many worries. I believe everyone has the ability to chose to be happy or sad. December is one time in the year when everyone is trying to be a better person. Celebrate and feel good before the season is over. It does not matter if you have a religious holiday. It is good to feel good.

I do not usually celebrate the holidays and found you do not need a big tree or candy. It can all be done with simple tokens. I have Christmas socks with Santa placing gifting under the Tree.

There are several lights in a box. Sometimes money is tight or accommodations limit decorations. I remember the festive parts of Christmas and select a few things.

We decorated a tree and had a big Christmas Eve dinner. We would glue strips of paper in circles to make colorful bands around the tree. It was also fun to use a needle and thread to make long strings of popcorn. On Christmas Day, we ate the popcorn.

On Christmas Day we opened gifts. My parents stuffed the stocking with candy, fruit and one small toy like a miniature doll or car. It was a gift . It took awhile to take everything out and look at everything.

We drank hot chocolate. Since it was a special occasion, we would ad a drop of vanilla or sprinkle of cinnamon. My Parents also bought egg nog. They would dilute it with milk so it was not as spicy.

My favorite foods are cheese and sausage. It was a bigger expense, yet the small packages of cheese and sausage were great. Sometimes I like pepperoni pizza or cheddar and pepperoni snack. Cheese and crab logs are seasonal. They begin to appear around November and disappear around January.

Now that I am older, those things are not as important. I can forgo the large dinner, yet it is nice to start feeling festive with the memorable treats.

We have oranges around the house. Hot coco is also normal. It is nice to spice it up with vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice. Pumpkin spice is also good. Sprinkle it on coco or add it too meals.

I eat chocolate fairly regularly; however, it is fun to get a box of chocolate with the orange filling. It is slightly more festive and not the usual chocolate.

There is egg nog in the refrigerator. There is no need to dilute it with milk. I drink a small amount with a doughnut. I do not need forty-eight flavor of cheese. A nice cheese ball and crackers is fine.

These accents to an otherwise normal day help remember what the seasons are about. It is a time of fellowship and joy. It is a time to be on your best behavior and maybe a sprinkle of nice will lead to an upswing in feeling good all-the-time.

It is as though the middle of December is a effort to balance all the negative slants and competitive bickering with the minimum of doing something good. Let it all go to generate a competition for who is nicest. It is similar to smiling for fifteen minutes to get in a better mood. After being in a better mood, maybe we will stay in a better mood.

Atheists celebrate X-Mas. It acknowledges the psychological, family and community affects of the holiday season without acknowledging any religious content or belief in God. Cheer and joy are a necessity for feeling good an entire year. It is unknown if this has a direct relationship to cold weather. If it has a relationship, Australians should have charitable or community holidays in June and July.

Beyond food, there are decorations. They could fit in a corner of a suitcase. It does not have to be huge or elaborate. It can be small a nativity scene, decorative dradle, pine cone dipped in sparkles or variety of inexpensive decorations from a grocery store.

I like two or three focal points in the main or living room. A nativity scene on a shelf and a small plastic tree on the entertainment system cabinet is fine. Place a snow globe on the desk or a Christmas pot holder near the stove.

They are all small items that come in many shapes, sizes and prices. A Christmas ornament hanging from a lamp, calendar or string hanging from a nail welcomes the holiday spirit. There is no need for a giant tree. If you miss the scent of pine, buy a pine car deodorizer.

It is good to have a season for feeling good. It is cold, snowy, hot or raining outside. There is good reason to celebrate and participate in deciding to be happy.
