Do it All with Drapes

A few basic concepts for picking out curtains combined with of the drapes should be two to three times the width of the window. Then add four to six inches times two plus the length of the window for additional privacy above and below the window.

Energy saving drapes is best for insulation and privacy. They are also attractive. The difference between energy saving and regular curtains is energy saving curtains have lining on the side facing the window. The cost is less expensive, because regular curtains must be bunched together for equivalent privacy. This means drapes must be three to four times the width of a window for privacy.

There are several window treatments. The least expensive is the roll-down shade. They are okay, yet they are fairly transparent and a person must be aware of how shadows, since they create a perfect silhouette. They must be fitted with a quarter inch leeway on each side; otherwise, they tear from being to snug and it is easy to look in through the cracks. Blinds also have this problem. To prevent people peering through the sides buy additional twelve inch curtains for each side. Since you have the curtain rod and clips, why not get drapes?

In addition to drapes, a person needs hardware. Shades and blinds come with everything. Curtains are customizable with rods, brackets and clip rings. If you want curtains to separate from the center or go left or right by pulling a string, you need a traverse rod and drapery hooks. Drapes made for rods have holes to go around the rod. Drapes made for a traverse rod are pleated. Most curtains have a hole for the rod with additional fabric along the top for pleating, similar to the ones I am using in my video.

Another step, yet to be accomplished, is going to the fabric store for an energy saving lining. The video is fun. Truthfully curtains are inexpensive during sale seasons. Prepackaged curtains are frequently on sales for twenty dollars. They probably cost less than buying fabric and making them yourself. I saved a lot of money on this project, because I altered some old curtains taking up space in the basement.

Find curtains in a standard size for a particular drape in a desired size that will work with the dimensions of the windows. They do all the pleating or trimming. However, between curtain rods, accessories and everything else it becomes a hassle.

Drapes make an extreme difference in the appeal of a home. It is time consuming, yet it is worth all the time and expense. The whole room looks better without paint and other changes to the base structure of a home. The big trick is finding an appealing pattern or color that is complimentary to current or planned color scheme.
